My OEM HDD recently crashed out of nowhere (late 2010 17" MBP). I do have apple care. Unfortunately, I go to school outside of the States and won't be near an apple store until August. I did replace the HDD with something temporary, Hitachi 500GB Traverstar that cost me $160 (HDD are scarce here and customs charge 100%)
. I had a 500GB 7200RPM Hitachi in there originally.
I was wondering if I could just bring the bare HDD to the apple store and possibly get a replacement? Or do I have to put it back in my laptop? Or would they even replace it at all?
