Hi all

I have 2 80gb sata drives from an old windows PC tower I used to use and was wondering if they can be formatted and would fit in an imac g5. Was there a special size drive in the g5 or could this be a simple swap.

iMac G5 use standard desktop SATA drives so you can install one. If you have the drive caddy, screws and cables in iMac it is easy, sometimes when people disassemble iMac G5's and put for sale as spares they for some reason take all those parts mentioned with the drive itself. During OS X install you can use disk utility to format.

My mistake, old PC has ata not sata, guess I'm outta luck

If you're still interested in upgrading your G5, any computer store around you will have SATA hard drives that will work in it. You can even stick an SSD in there if you really want to bump up the speed. I put a small, cheap SSD (64GB, got it for $20) in mine, and it is astoundingly fast now.
