i got a MBP 15" mid 2012 unibody without hard drive, i put the one from MBP2008 without formatting it.
when i turn it on it turns on to a black screen but when i try many times, the display turns on but very week.
i downloaded OSX Lion and made a bootable USB with transmac, i turn on holding the option power, it recognizes the OSX on the USB but when i click on it it shows prohibitory sign immediately. when i try with other OS, it doesnt recognize it.
anyone has any idea ? could it be the HDD?
thank you

This doesn't sound like something that is drive-related.

Transmac isn't going to work.
You need ANOTHER MAC to make a bootable USB flash drive.

Have you tried booting to INTERNET recovery ???
This IS NOT "the recovery partition", it's completely different.

Try this:
Boot to internet recovery:
Command-OPTION-R

You'll need a wifi password (unless you connect via ethernet).
The utilities will take a while to load, be patient.

Do you get to the internet utilities?
If you do, come back here and we'll tell you what to do next.
What OS do you want to install?

Internet recovery will offer you the most recent version of the OS that can run on that Mac.
