Is it possible to install a 3.5" 7200-rpm hard drive inside of a 21.5" iMac myself or is this exclusive to the 27" model only ?

It's exclusive to the 27", if you are considering buying a 21.5" then get a Fusion drive. That would offer great performance.

This should give you the info you require. You should also be aware that you won't necessarily get faster performance from a 7200 RPM drive, as density differences could make a higher capacity 5400 RPM drive faster than a lower capacity 7200 RPM drive. Of course, none of these would be as fast as an SSD.

thanks for the info.

it wasn't so much the spin speed but whether or not a 3.5" drive would fit. I would definitely go hybrid/SSHD/fusion where possible! :D

looks like i'll have to go for a 27" model :/ when do apple usually do the 0% 12-month finance in the UK (seems to come and go at random)?
