HDMI adapter and sound output

I just bought original HDMI adapter and found few things that I need clarification:
1.Movie playing in a wide screen and sound pass my Denon receiver fine.
2.A soon as I start Garage band - video pass at 4:3 ratio,but sound work only from tine speaker of the IPAD2. Is ther anyway to push sound to speakers?
3.Some games sound will go to the Denon Speakers (like Talking cat,I think), other will not.
Where is the catch?
