HDMI audio pass through to Denon 2310 AVR

Hi-

I have a Denon AVR 2310 and I am trying to pass audio through HDMI to the AVR but I cannot get it to work with VLC. I am successfully using HDMI to pass audio from iTunes.

I am using VLC and I have tried both Audio>Audio Device>HDMI and Audi>Audio Device>HDMI Encoded with no luck. I have also pressed option and the sound icon in the top bar and selected DENON-AVAMP and I still don't get sound through HDMI.

Suggestions? Advice?

If VLC does not work, what about quicktime or another video player??
