Which cable would be a better bet to output to a 1920x1080 Dell s2240L monitor -- HDMI or MiniDisplay-to-VGA cable?

The computer is a MBP retina '13 late 2012.

While both would work ( as long as you're not looking to go beyond 1080p ), I'm not a huge fan of HDMIs :)

Would there be any reason?

I'm going to get a cable from a store in Bangalore, and I just want to ensure they work. I am sceptic of the conversion from minidisp to VGA, over a consistent HDMI connection would work.

I guess I'll get a minidisk - hdmi so that I can use it with other monitors if needed (all our office ones are VGA anyway).

So I bought the MiniDisp port, however I am not able to set the external monitor display to it's native settings. It's giving me 1280x1024 as maximum. Image attached.

Please help. My monitor native is 1920x1080.
