I've got a new 2018 Mac mini and I've tried 2 different adapters.. reseting nvram. Updated to 10.14.6 Nothing worked.

I want to run the mini on my kvm switch with is dvi. It works with the HDMI output from my monitor. But no go with a dvi adapter. talk to Mac support and they couldn't help.

What is the make/model of the kvm switch?

Its a Iogear kvm, but I by passed the kvm and used the monitors dvi cable into the adapters and it won't work.

So its something weird with the conversion of dvi to hdmi.

Out of curiosity, I tried this setup out just now and it worked fine.

I have a 2018 mac mini. I got my IOGEAR GCS1204G 4-port Dual Link DVI KVM. I used the included cables from IOGEAR. I plugged the IOGEAR cable into official Apple HDMI (male) to DVI (female) adapter that came with my old 2011 mac mini and connected it to my 2018 mac mini.

I connected KVM output to two old DVI monitors I had nearby - an HP ZR24w and a Dell 1905FP. Both came up immediately via KVM and worked fine.

I see it doesn't work even when bypassing KVM - what make and model monitor are you using?

HDMI and DVI are electrically the same signal - so the adapters are passive there are no electronics in them. Out of curiosity, what make/model adapters are you trying?

Knowing exactly what gear you have will make this easier.

KVm is a iogear GCS1104, adapters are tripp Lite P132-08N HDMI to DVI Cable Adapter and a generic one that's described as HDMI® Male to DVI-D Single Link.

Just tried running it threw the kvm again and still no go.. Do need a Mac adapter??? Figured they'd all do the same thing. But never know eh.

Sorry if this is obvious, but when using DVI cable on monitor - you are switching input in the monitor's settings to DVI input?

Have you tried DVI port on monitor with another device? Curious if a PC or anything can output to it using same DVI cable.

Have you tried other DVI cables?

Yes I did switch the monitor to dvi input. Dvi cable from monitor has work with the kvm for 2 years. On my old Mac Pro and pc's. Add the HDMI adapter nothin.

Wonder if its a monitor setting?

OP wrote about HDMI port:
"Yah I'm using one now, it works fine."

Ok I figured it out! :D
I used HDMI adapter to hdmi port on the monitor, then the dvi end to my kvm, dvi cable from the kmv to the other adapter into my Mac mini and it works!

Thx a lot for the helps guys! appreciate it.
