Apple refers to it's iPhone 14 Pro phones having 1600 nits peak brightness (HDR). I understand the general peak brightness reference as well as the outdoor reference. But what is "peak brightness HDR: referring to?

How bright highlights are in HDR for example if you were watching a movie how bright the sun could get in a scene

So is it referring to HDR only in video terms, or does it apply to stills, games, etc.?

Fun fact: If you’re watching HDR-content outside in a bright spot, your iPhone 14 will dim down your screen to a maximum of 1600 nits. Go SDR-content.
