Just picked up this monitor and find that when I use HDR on the M1 the image on the monitor looks washed out. It looks great in standard mode. Any fix here?

Thanks

HDR enabled forces the monitor into ST 2084 gamma. The desktop isn’t supposed to be seen with that gamma profile on macOS or Windows. It’s only supposed to be used with video content that uses that gamma. Even most HDR movies stick to BT 1886 for backwards compatibility with more displays.

Too bad its not automatic when watching HDR content like the iPhone is. ill leave it off for now.

It is supposed to, but neither Microsoft nor Apple have completed the implementation yet. Probably because it is still early days and most HDR content doesn’t use that gamma or because standards keep changing. Maybe in a few years the GUI will be optimized for a new gamma and newer color profiles.

macOS shows HDR fine anyway without HDR enabled. Clever graphics drivers.

Thanks. Ill not use it on my LG for now. Yes the drivers make sense as to why the Mac and iPhone handles HDR so well.

I have LG-27UK600-W and got the same issue with washed out colors in HDR mode, so i just disabled it. I thought they were supposed to fix this issue in a Big Sur, had it since Catalina.

Hello,

I wonder do we need to change the system settings everytime we play a game or a movie (supporting HDR) ?

I noticed that HDR actually provides more details in the blacks on some picture, but the colours a lot less vivid (in photos app).

Thanks,
