Anyone else see this? HDR is available on the Xs Max when playing the same Youtube HDR video, on the iPhone 11 Pro Max, the HDR setting is not available?

Can you actually put a link to the video you’re watching?! I want to try it out on my device as well.

Proof below, only the iPhone Xs Max can display HDR content (as of 2019-09-22), sorry for the crap quality, took photo with old iPad Pro:

Tried about 12-13 of the video downloads, none were able to download - Google noted too many downloads, I guess this is a popular test!

I tested out a 4K HDR movie from my Plex server and it worked perfectly.

EDIT: YouTube needs to update their app to support it, looks like the same thing happened with the Xs last year.

Isn't there an issue between Google and Apple relating to codex in terms video streaming? So we don't get 4k on our devices because of it. Which is a shame because I'm a heavy You Tube user.

That's faux HDR. Just because it says 'HDR' doesn't mean it is. There are many fakes like this on youtube. It's been converted from HDR in-store video sample to a 1080p video. Get a youtube downloader app and check the metadata in Quicktime, an editor or VLC.

Anyway Google doesn't support Safari for streaming 4K/8K youtube videos so blame them for any inaccurate or missing options. The hardware on a Mac and iPhone supports it. It's up to Google to put it in there.

Apple does not support Googles codec for 4K/HDR at all and Google don't want support Apple codec. Old story.
On all Apple devices, you can use Youtube only @ 1080p.

All iOS devices. Not all Apple devices.

I can play YT 4K just fine on my MacBook.

The same thing happened with the iPhone X and the iPhone XS. YouTube just needs to update their app to support HDR on the 11 models.

I think it took them about a week last year from what I remember. So I’m sure within the new 7-10 days, they will push out an update. Too bad the videos will top out at 1080p...
