HDV File chokes my iMac, but not my Macbook

Someone just sent me a 30MB 1080i hdv file.

It runs much much better on my Core Duo Macbook than it does on my Core 2 Duo 2.16ghz iMac. It constantly crashes QT on the iMac and barely displays any frames.

Surely this can't be right? the iMac should out perform the Macbook
 
That sounds odd. I handle a lot of HD Videos, although I never play them on QT, seems VLC does a better job on my iMac playing 1080i/720p material.
