HDV on Todays Macs

If we take an C2D 2 GB RAM iMac or Macbook [not pro], how do they perform with HDV? Do they lag a lot and take a lot of time?

Will it be that if I buy an HDV cam now and also a Mac, then after an year or two, because of HDV, the Macs will be outdated and noticeably slow?

I ahve heard that a Mac Pro will be able to get HDV on to the computer in real time. But thats a Mac Pro.

Does HDD speed make a big noticeable difference on import performance?
