hmm, guess this sounds Sybillic...

Well, the thing is I'm recording lectures and as the lecturer walks around his desk moving out of the fixed capture area of my camera app, I would like to know whether there's an iPhone case or support that would be linked somehow to the camera app and would allow the iPhone to keep track of the lecturer, adjusting its position if needed so that he stays in sight...

Anything the like that exists?

It's more designed for the institution rather than the end user such as yourself, but check out the Swivl robotic mount as a starting point. It's spendy, but the idea is that it holds your iPhone and the user carries a wireless microphone which the mount tracks.

Seems about as cheap as you could make it, but I'm sure if you look harder for Arduino or Raspberry Pi projects, you'll find the sweet spot between cereal box toy and prosumer tracker. The nice thing about this one is that it doesn't require camera input TMK
