I am trying to get used to using a 15-inch Macbook Air M4 before my evaluation period ends. I LOVE it so much, but it has been giving me headaches after using it. I never had this issue with the Macbook Pro. Has anybody else found this, or am I going mad?!!

I disabled font smoothing, which helped a little, but I am still getting headaches. I wonder if it is the lack of Promotion. I had a Macbook Pro before this, so maybe my eyes are just used to the 120hz screen?

I know this is going to sound odd, but I had a similar problem using my m3 15" MBA last year. I had done a clean install and still had Apple's garish background, really bright and in your face. I replaced that with a seascape and my problems went away. I promise you I am not a tree hugger :)

Thanks, that’s useful. I don’t have the wallpaper showing most of the time, as I have the scaling jacked up a bit due to my ageing eyes! I wonder if it is the brightness, although the Pro is even brighter and that was fine. I am hoping I do not have to stump up a lot of extra cash to buy the 16-inch Pro just for the screen.:rolleyes:

I have aging eyes too.. and while I normally dont think promotion is that big of a deal (I dont notice it on my MacPro), perhaps that does allow it to be brighter without bothering your eyes. I run my MBA at about 50% brightness and the background is not bright.

Do you run it at 50 percent all the time, or do you allow it to adapt to the conditions?

Obviously, the MB Air is not the right computer for you. Whatever the cause, you're having the headaches. I'd suggest trying the MB Pro.

I love my 15" MBA. I'm glad I don't have any health issues with it. Good luck.

Problem with the MBP mini led screen is that it uses PWM flickering, which also causes headaches from PWM sensitivity. The MBA LCD screen is supposed to cause the least headaches as it does not have flickering.
