My iPhone doesn’t have the headphone jack and I’ve never used the free adapter until today and when I’ve tried I get nothing through my speakers yet when I use the adapter on my iPad Air 2 (as a test as it has the 3.5 audo jack) with the same speakers it works fine.

If there are headphones connected to the 3.5mm jack of the adapter, then the correct behaviour when you plug the adapter into an iPhone/iPad is that the speakers should be silenced.

I think he means speakers that he's connecting via the adapter, not the phone's speakers.

Faulty adapter? Headphone volume on phone is low/off?

Going to be that guy: my adapter is working as advertised, for audio and taking phone calls (3rd party earbuds with mic).

Not sure as it’s working fine on the iPad and yes I have tried the volume.

I’ll order a bluetooth speaker instead.
