Headphone jack issue, sound output staticy?

So I've noticed a huge problem when I use any headphones on my iphone 5, the sound output is extremely muffled and staticy, basically unlistenable. And yes they are plugged in all of the way. I tried taking a tooth pick to clean it out, and took out some dust but the problem is still there. Any other solutions? Would this be covered by AppleCare? I've got my warranty left
