thinking of upgrading my iphone 6 yet holding back primarily for the missing 3.5mm jack and going for a 6s.

I've invested a lot in IEM's and headphones over the ears, most of which have black cabling so the white lightning adapter while usable, is aesthetically unpleasing. Not crazy about a wireless set for SQ and charging reasons.

am I being too stubborn? feel like i'm in need of a reality check.

Though not happy with the white Apple dongles, I got used to it/learn to live with it.

Had to get the white 30-pin to Lightning dongle for my car stereo setup (with a black main cable) when I got the 6. The 3.5mm dongle, I'm generally not looking at it, when phone is in the pocket so is the dongle as well. Only time it's being waved around is when working out and the phone is in the armband (again, not looking at it). Belkin splitter: you guessed it, it too is white.

In addition to shrink tubing, could always (carefully) paint the dongle.

Re: shrink tubing: tubing that you apply heat via a hair dryer to to shrink the tubing around something. Most hardware stores have it in the electrical aisle. eg. https://www.harborfreight.com/127-piece-heat-shrink-tubing-set-67524.html

Black heat shrink tubing. Problem solved

That's a great idea. If you have done this post a pic. I'd like to see how it looks.

I don't think you are being stubborn. After having a 7 and then a 8, I cant tell you how many times I forgot/lost the dongle. I know it' supposed to be the future, but I spent a fortune on plugin headphones, Can't plug into my car aux adapter, speaker in my garage without the dongle. Frustrating. So the phone may be looking to the future but until I replace the rest of my stuff with wireless, I'm stuck in dongle purgatory.

I saw these third party adapters on Amazon which are a good example and might be usable though not a certified accessory..

was it worth upgrading to the 7/8 given the dongle gripes? only ask because I'm having a hard time discerning if the other hardware changes were significant enough to justify getting those. not a matter of cost in my situation either.

Well, for this particular model, "DO NOT support music control or answer phone call can not use it in the car.". So as long as not looking to make calls, control volume & tracks, might work.

But look ai the Verified Purchaser reviews: pretty much every one of them is 1-star.

Most of these knock-offs are only good for audio-only and seem to be REAL hit/miss on working even for that.

The wireless charging alone was worth the upgrade. Bought two charging pads. Every time I set it down it charges. Never think about it and the battery is always ready to go. Otherwise, not too much difference between the two.

The 8 plus is a bit faster, the camera is a bit better, but the 7 plus was fine for me. My wife had the 6 plus with 16gb of storage. She kept filling it up. So I swapped my 7 plus with a 128gb of storage with her. She was very happy. I used her 6 plus for about two weeks but found it to be lacking. It then started to have issues after having a cracked screen repaired. I went ahead and bought an 8 plus, but would have been just as happy with a 7 plus.

Since I got my airpods I haven’t thought about using a headphone jack, I carry them as a apart of my edc. Overall I must agree, the wireless charging and all the features of the iPhone X and the headphone jack is the least of my worries.
