Hi there,

I've had OS3 beta 5 installed on my iPhone 3G since it came out and have had no problems, up until a few days ago. I've not heard any mention of this over the web... so not sure if this is a hardware or a software fault, but here's what happens:

When I have the headphones plugged in (official apple or otherwise), using the remote on the headphones (skip tracks, answer calls etc..) only seems to work the very first time the phone has been booted up.

eg: iphone is powered off..
1) turn iphone ON
2) plug in headphones
3) play some music
4) use remote to skip tracks etc..
5) unplug headphones
6) wait a few mins & then plug headphones back in
7) remote doesn't work at all...
8) turn phone OFF
9) repeat steps 1-9

does this sound like a software or a hardware issue?

apple support won't help me out as 3.0 is in beta... which i understand.

i've spoken with adc support and they say i have to file a bug report, and even then it may not be software related (!).

BUT what i am worried about..is that if it turns out to be a hardware fault, and apple release 3.0 officially after the launch date of the 3G iphone (think it was mid-july), then my warranty would be out and i'd get charged for a repair.. even though i am trying to report it well within the warranty period.

any ideas as to what to do please?

thanks

EDIT1: Going to try a restore to beta 5 now to see if that helps..

EDIT2: Restore didn't do the trick, BUT i got a very bright light and looked inside the headphone jact, and there was a small ball of fluff (probably from my jeans pocket) at the bottom.. so i managed to get it out and now my phone works with the headphone remote!! yipppeeeee
