Hey guys, I'm considering getting a pair of headphones for under $50 (hence the title name).

I've heard good things about the Koss Portapro, the Senn PX100, and the Grado SR60.

I've never used open-ear headphones before, but I've heard the quality tends to be better than closed-ear. This would mostly be for listening to music (from my iPod/iPhone and my macbook) in my dorm and when walking around campus.

Any suggestions?

Would it be better to go with closed-ear headphones?

Thanks!

Edit: Also, if there any good ear buds for that same price range, post them!

I and like million of people here in Finland have Portapros. Great sound and built quality for 30€ + lifetime warranty = I like!

Yeah, they seem like a great deal. They're about $30 on Amazon w/ free shipping; the lifetime warranty is a pretty nice thing too...

sennheiser HD 202 FTW

Amazon sells them for like $20 and they're amazing quality

Won't go wrong with the Port Pro's, but I'd take a stroll to Best Buy to try on the Panasonics, they are quite shocking. And this comes from someone that almost only drinks from the Shure and Grado Kool Aid.

Definitely will do.

For the price, is it worth the extra $50 for the Grados?

I tend to be helpful in most threads regarding sound, sometimes I get distracted. Maybe I should have brought the PS1000s for some girls to run around my dorm in underwear. Second thought: portable dac and underwear sorta distracting.

Hey, I was just checking our your user profile. Wake Forest? I'm from Georgia Tech. I'm not sure if you follow football, but we just squeaked by you guys on Saturday!

is that subtle mind in the gutter? :p haha

Yeah, you and Miami. Our schedule has oddly gotten legitimate: Baylor (before their QB went down), Stanford (#25), Clemson, Miami, you guys and FSU, and Navy who got some votes for the poll.

Hello everyone

I found this thread as I was searching for best headphones in under $50 range (max is $60) ... As this thread is old and I didn't want to create another thread , I'll ask my question here.

I listen to all kinds of music...classic rock(floyd), progressive rock (dream theater and porcupine tree), OST's, hip-hop...basically everything. I use my ipod and my phone.
I was looking at sennheiser and sony's headphones...don't know any other reputable brand (maybe shure?) ... I ordered sennheiser hd201 and just got them...listened to them for half an hour and decided to return them...not loud enough and not enough bass too.

I would also like outside noise reduction...(not a deal breaker)

Can you guys recommend some?

Well...maybe I'm not the best one to give you suggestions..
But as I seem to be the only one...

I give my thumbs up to Sony Headphones..
I myself have these: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs...51&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=11038345

They are around the same price range as the HD201 you tried.
You should give them a go I think.. I like the way Sony Headphones feel on my head. And my ears fits inside the "cups" fully which is a better fit and more deep sound (bass) at least to my experience.
Sennheisers never really felt too good on me...but that's just a personal opinion from the average guy.. :)
