My beloved headset (Klipsch S4i ) recently broke down, and Klipsch is refusing to honor the warranty because my Amazon purchase was apparently not sold by an authorized reseller, so I'm in the market for a new headset.

My requirements are pretty simple: I need an in-ear headset with a microphone and remote. This will mostly be used for listening to podcasts on my daily commute so sound quality is not too much of an issue. I want a good quality headset with a snug and comfortable fit.

Thanks very much in advance for your recommendations. Cheers!

Headset recommendation

Why not try Apple in-ear headphones? They have the features you want which are: Microphone and remote. In addition they have the following features:
Pro audio performance and nice sound.
Simple and convenient buttons for control.
Three sets of different sized silicone ear tips.
Spare mesh caps for replacement.
Very light weight.
Great compatibility with different iPhone versions.

Plantronics Backbeat GO 2
not to be confused with the first version some retailers may still be selling.

( you're not driving a car or riding a bike with in-ear phones, are you? )
