It may have been missed by Australians based on the timing (2 days before Christmas) but Apple has received TGA approval of AirPods Pro 2 to have the Hearing Aid feature. Now just waiting on a software update.

I've been hoping to wake up to the feature or news that it has been released, but iOS needs to be updated so I imagine they'll put it on the next minor software update, maybe 18.3. Firmware on my APP2 seem to be ready for it already.

What is weird, is that when I do a search for Hearing Aid Australia Apple - I am directed to an apple.com.au support site that states the Hearing Aid setup and how to - despite it not being available yet. Hoping it's not too long.

Kind of makes sense - it would need to pass many tests/regulations before being approved as a hearing aid device. Hopefully not too much longer…

The hearing aid feature has already been approved by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration. This happened on December 17th 2024 so I am wondering why has it not been included in the iOS 18.3 update? I would have thought that Apple would have had sufficient time to bake this feature into this release for Australians.
Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

I can only presume that's just one level of 'red tape' it needed to pass through. With such a widespread device as this (which isn't a dedicated hearing aid), every check-box from multiple departments (whatever they are) would need to be ticked...

As far as I understand that approval was the only barrier to getting the feature included in an iOS release. Nothing else was needed.

Ok well, Dec 17th would've been just before Christmas break for many. & those people may be returning to work now, so hopefully we hear something in February (pun intended) 😏

Also it was approved by TITCK which is the Turkish counterpart of TGA but we haven’t received the feature yet. I wonder if the feature is server-based or will be activated with an update.

Will continue to wait. I’m assuming it’ll just appear here like in the UK and then someone will let MR know. Keeping Airpods on charge overnight and phone probably the best bet to ensure it updates.

Well despite it saying it’ll be available in 18.4 it’s working on mine now and I have iOS 18.3.2 so give it a shot. Works fairly well and is much like other tests I’ve done previously. Saved me a few thousand dollars. Brilliant.

Indeed. I spotted it earlier today on this page that I had pinned. Suddenly Australia was on the list. Lo and behold the feature is actually there. Sadly (gladly), my hearing is too good for the hearing aid function to be available, but for my wife it's a total game changer.
