My Ultra 1 has become extremely iffy on tracking heart rate during workouts lately. Some days it’s perfect but I’d say just as many days it seems to struggle to read for large blocks of time. I’ve attached my last workout readings to show what I mean.

Those little gray dots show where I paused the workout. This seems to “wake it up” as it’s not grayed out anymore but it just shows the last reading it had before it quit working rather than a current value. So that entire blank area showed (and counted calories at) 110 until it finally figured it out.

I’ve restarted and reset several times with no change at all. Anybody else seen this?

I have found that Apple’s heart rate sensor sucks! Mine drops out all the time even when not in cold weather. I have to keep adjusting and moving around to get the sensor to start again!🤬

I had this with my U1 from time to time during running workouts until I started using Precision Start. With that enabled I waited until the watch had a fix on my heart rate before starting the workout - rarely ever happened again.
I still use that feature with my U2s without any problems

My Ultra 2 is like this 100% of the time for workouts. What kind of workout was this?

Do you tend to have a very fast ramp up in heart rate when you work out?

That's my issue. Every HR tracker I've used that's not a chest strap will drop out the initial 10 minutes because my HR ramp up is so fast. I read a review of a bunch of smartwatches done by a marathoner who had the same HR pattern and he said it was an issue for him too, but the same watches worn by a friend of his with a more conventional pattern tended to work OK.

I've never had an AW that didn't drop heart rate data during runs, including my current AWU 2. I use a Polar Verity Sense now.
