I'm trying to find an iPhone case that is designed to dissipate heat but also offer good drop protection. A case that is thick but doesn't retain heat. Perhaps one made of a mesh, or some other design that allows for breathability and/or involves the use of heat dissipating materials.

Here's why:

My last phone (iPhone 8) was purchased new but became unusably slow and unable to launch basic apps after 16 months (factory restore didn't help). I'm pretty sure this can be attributed to prolonged thermal stress.

The general condition of my phone is normally: vehicle-mounted and exposed to direct sunlight, running navigation apps, hotspotting other devices, clad in a thick drop-proof case, all while being plugged in and charging. Given these demands, I keep the phone mount directly in front of the dash's middle air vents and blast the a/c on the phone (keeping the rest of the car's vents closed to concentrate all airflow towards the phone). The vehicle's climate control system becomes more dedicated to the phone than the occupants.

Despite these efforts, the phone is always very hot to the touch. I'm convinced that this would not happen if I were to remove the case, as the a/c would be strong enough to keep the phone cool. Naked phone is not an option for me, however.

Now I have an iPhone SE (2nd gen) and I'm trying to spare it from the same fate as the iPhone 8.

Any recommendations for a case?

Keeping a phone in the sunlight with the screen on constantly(navigation app) is going to heat up the phone regardless of whether it's in a case or not.

Even with a/c blasting on it that's so strong it can make my hand go numb?

If it has that much a/c blowing on it and it's cool in your car no case is going to insulate it that much. Mine doesn't get hot to the touch when charging inside an Otterbox but there is no direct sunlight. Maybe some light window tint?

I have a Spigen with the soft inner and hard outer. It's like an Otterbox, which I've had before. There's a little hole in the back to expose the Apple symbol. When I put my finger in there to feel the phone's temperature, it's usually pretty hot under the conditions listed above.

In Canada, it's illegal to tint your front windshield because it can create a hazard for night driving.

Charging, navigation, in a thick case, and dash-mounted under the windshield can usually be offset by the a/c. It's when I throw in the demand of hotspotting other devices that the heat gets out of control

Get a THIN clear case. I have currently Totallee transparent case. Very thin...thus, not overly insulating your phone. Clear. Avoid dark colored cases. Avoid “ventilated” cases because those can let dirt into your phone and scratch it.
