I’m almost set on getting the iPhone 16 Plus, but I’ve got one question I can’t find a clear answer to. I’ve seen that the 16 Pro Max has major improvements in temperature management—it barely heats up compared to previous models. But I’m wondering if the regular 16 Plus also got this upgrade.

With older models, there were always issues with overheating in high temps or direct sunlight (like in summer), where the screen dims and performance drops. Does anyone know if the 16 Plus handles this better now, especially during gaming or heavy use?

Most people here seem to have the Pro Max, but if anyone’s tried the 16 Plus, I’d love to hear if it’s comparable or if it still struggles with heat. Otherwise I might have to go with the pro max, but i find it too heavy/bulky. Thanks!

If you look at reviews where an infrared camera was used, the 16 Pro is (compared to 15 Pro) cooler by only a couple degrees C.

For situations like direct sunlight, it will overheat regardless. For sustained heavy load, the A18 series is much better. That's largely due to a better chip rather than improved cooling design.

If you are speaking about direct sunlight, you’ll find problems with every device. Where A18 and new iPhone are better is in sustained performance under loads (such as gaming), when they are throttling back much less than previous models and most of the competitors.

I have the 16 Pro, and was out in the South East of Asia last month, and I could definitely tell my phone was running hotter than my 13 Pro. No doubt it about as I was out there for 3 weeks and it was very apparent.
