Okay. I just got simultaneous alerts on my MBP and my iPhone, from Apple, saying they had to do system maintenance on the 17th (today is the 14th) and to unlock my phone and set it up for screen mirroring on my laptop. I thought, well, they have access to my iCloud account (notification to both devices) and I've had a couple beers this evening.
I did so. Then, about 20 seconds later, I thought, okay, they have access to my iCloud account, and now they may have the code to unlock my iPhone (if "they" are not Apple). I then disconnected the iPhone Mirroring (granted, this was about 20 seconds later).

Did I just eff up royally??? And if so, what should I do at this point? Dammit! Will reboot both devices now, and come here for any instructions in a few minutes.

Change your account password immediately, make sure Advanced data protection is turned on, and make sure your trusted devices on your account are ones you own. Be quick.

That was a scam / phishing alert to try and take over your account and gain access to personal information on your devices.

@Apple Robert, thank you.
I rebooted the MBP, and turned off the iPhone. When the laptop came back on, Tidal came on, and had a "Download Now! message with a promise of $1,000,000, in odd font, so I quit Tidal. Will quit the other apps, reboot again, then change my password.
I'll report back.

Do you use Tidal (the subscription music streaming service)?
Or, are you referring to something else?
Yes, Tidal the music service.
And when I finished Quitting all Apps, changing my Apple password, and rebooted, my laptop had two apps running: Finder, and... Tidal! I clicked on Tidal, saw the same "Download Now" message, so I quit it manually again.
I'll wait until tomorrow to figure out if I should delete Tidal and reload it, or what. I'd hate to lose my "Favorites" list; however, I use a Cambridge Audio streamer/DAC and its own Tidal interface (StreamMagic), so maybe my Favorites are stored there, we'll see after I get a good night's sleep.

When I reset my password the Vikings/Cowboys game quit playing thru my Apple TV, screen message said, "Ooh, your password changed!", I re-set it, and everything's kosher there.

Just a few seconds of poor judgement can really screw things up, and it may get worse before it gets better; thanks for the help guys.

Ugh, and now I just noticed my avatar on the main page has changed to a snow landscape, with a faint "OS 26" in Liquid Haze superimposed (my notification that I've responded to my own thread is still my handsome orangutan-like portrait):
