Hi all!

This seems to be THE forum for anything related to Apple :)
I just got the 27" iMac.. with 3.2GHZ i5, 8GB RAM, 1 TB, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX graphics processor, magic mouse & wireless keyboard.
It is actually a gift from wife, so it's standard config with no modifications :)

I would not be using the mac for gaming.. i am a photographer, so only editing work.

Having used the PC for over 15 years, this seems very luxurious to say the least!

A couple of noob questions-
a) regarding accessories - any must have & recommended?

b) the mac came pre-loaded with OS X Lion.. Isn't Mountain Lion the latest version & shouldn't this have been preloaded?
Is it recommended to buy the upgrade? I am not a big fan of Facebook or cloud services (as that's what i have gathered over the past few hours as being the advantage of Mountain Lion)

c) any basic advice for Mac first timers? Like maintenance, safety etc?

Any links, advice that would help iMac noobs is most appreciated!

Thanks!

That's very odd that you have Lion and not Mountain Lion. Where was the iMac purchased from? Every 2012 iMac should have Mountain Lion standard.

We do not have Apple stores here, just Apple authorized re-sellers here in Bangalore, India.
Should i be checking with Apple support regarding this?

Yes you should because the new iMacs came out long after Mountain Lion was released, which was back in July in fact. Doesn't make sense that Lion would be preloaded any any of the new iMacs. What version number does your Mac OS say in "About This Mac"? Worse case, you'll get the upgrade to ML for free.

Did the machine show any signs of being used? Was it new and sealed in the box?

There's a slight chance someone may have attempted to downgrade to Lion if it was indeed used.

I hope you can get this cleared up, as it should have Mountain Lion.

This is what the 'About This Mac' says-

OS X
Version 10.8.2

Processor - 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory - 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Ah.. well i guess i made an error reading the version numbers..
am guessing 10.8.x is Mountain Lion ???
