Help: 2015 MBA DisplayPort

Is anyone having issues connecting their 2015 Macbook Air to a monitor via mini-DP to DP cable ?

The MBA detects the monitor when connected through the DisplayPort cable.
However the monitor is blank and no signal is detected.

I am using a Dell U2713HM monitor via the DisplayPort.
This same monitor and cable works for my 2010 MBP and 2012 Mac mini.

The monitor works if I use a mini DP to DVI cable but I can't reach maximum resolution using DVI.

And it doesn't matter whether the laptop lid is open or closed?
