[HELP] 3GS 4.3.3 How to restore from Apple n keep old baseband?

Hi to all and a Happy New Year !

Question:

I am on a 3GS , iOS 4.3.3 jailbroken with Pwnage 4.3 ,
old bootrom 04.26.08 . SHSH blobs on Cydia show up till 5.0.1

i have a legal right for and authorized unlock
from my carrier Orange.fr ( France)
BUT, in order to complete the unlocking procedure , I am asked to do a Restore with iTunes , than according to Orange my 3GS will be oficially unlocked.

I am afraid to do restore from Apple , as iPhone will be most probably upgraded to latest 5.0.1 by Apple ( not sure if it any good for my old n slow 3GS )
and will also loose most probably the old bootrom?

or if i wait longer Apple might release new update iOS 5.1.x and i will be to late for any jailbreak - witch is a disasterous idea to me

is there a way to avoid or trick iTunes /Orange/Apple into thinking that I DID restore

or maybe downgrading back to 4.3.3 from 5.0.1 ?
OR, any other workaround ?

all i need is an "official" permanent unlock from Orange.

If you are getting an official unlock, then you don't have to worry about what baseband you are on anymore.
It will always be unlocked forever.

And apple wont released iOS9.1 for another 4 years?

are you sure Apple isn't going to release an immediate followup update to OS 9.0.1
since its been jailbroken?
they always done that in the past - its like Cat and the Mouse game ?

I'm sure they are gonna release iOS 5.1 soon but not iOS 9.1.

Of course i meant, that i am afraid of Apple closing the door with the next quick release of iOS 5.1 in the next few days ...

so should i just do what Orange tells -
restore to a fresh new 5.0.1 , verify that i am oficially unlocked
and than jailbreak 5.0.1 ?

i am just not sure i can run OS 5.0.1 well enough on my almost "vintage" 3GS ?

or do i have a chance to downgrade to 4.x.x since i've got my SHSH blobs on Cydia ?

Up to you, but I'm running jailbroken 5.0.1 on my 3GS and it runs fine. I did it because of the new notification center and how eventually most new apps will require you to be on iOS5 to run it.

And yeah, you can downgrade to 4.x.x if you have blobs. Apple is still signing 4.1 for 3G/3GS phones.

When Orange(carrier provider) said your phone was unlocked, did they ask you to provide your phone's IMEI? When they do, i think you just have to sync/plug your phone into iTunes and unlock message should appear.

Thanks for your fast reply , you experience gives me the hope that iOS is usable on 3GS

Well , Orange ( provider/carrier) asked me 1st to fill in my IMEI number ,
than they emailed me to say that they processed my unlock request
and that i have to follow the guide on their website to complete the unlock,
the guide is basically just asks to
connect to iTunes and run a restore.

As i didn't run restore, but instead just clicked option/restore and re-jailbroken my 3GS with a custom built iOS 4.3.3 using Pwnage 4.3

Than iTunes wasn't at first recognizing my iPhone ,
but finally it did after connecting to Apple i believe....

but it was all written in French and was changing to fast for me
to understand wat exactly was going on - i am not very quick in French yet
- somehow my iphone got activated ,
but i am not sure i saw this message like in your picture ....

As i am still with Orange/carrier and the new SIM card from my new carrier hasn't arrived yet
- i cannot verify if i am really unlocked or not.

How hard is it to downgrade from 5.0.1 to 4.3.3 or any 4.x.x ,
is there any clear tutorial somewhere?

found lots of tutorials on youtube about downgrading ,
some of them contradict each other by proclaiming that you don't need SHSH blobs for downgrading 3GS
that SHSH blobs only needed for iPhone 4 ?

to go upgrading to 5.0.1 ( to be more compatible with new apps)
or not , will it be to heavy and slow on my 3GS?

The 3GS runs pretty good with 5.0.1

Even Just upgrading from iOS 3.1.2 to 4.3.3 slowed down my 3GS a bit , i notice a little sluggishness sometimes( shutting down all apps running in the background)

Of course i could just install iOS 9.0.1 ( custom buils with Redsnow or Pwnage to bypass Apple)
-> test it out for few days and Downgrade back to 4.x.x ?

Yes, as long as you have blobs saved for anything on 4.0+ then u can downgrade at any time.
