HELP! 62 dollars of tax?!?!?!?!?!?

hi,
so i gave up, thinking the white iphone ain't gonna be here (thanks apple...great "explanation" ;) )...(besides i bet i could swap it when it comes out anyway) so i finally got through apple's website! YES! and order the 32 gb black phone. either way...it is an amzing device. what i am really shocked about is the 62 dollars in tax!!!! for a 300 dollar phone! that is about 21 percent tax...and in CA we are only 9.5....

this is WITH the 18 dollar fee waived in addition. so that has nothing to do with it. anyone help?

In CA, you pay tax on the unsubsidised prices. It sucks, but that's how it works.
 
In CA you pay sales tax on the total unsubsidized price. Same for two other states which I cannot remember.

Move to another state.

Btw, that 9.5 tax is probably highest in the country. If not one of the highest.
I live in MD and it's 6 % and I usually buy stuff in Virginia and it's 5%.
 
you can change the shipping address to another state.. say you have relatives in AZ? then you can have them over night it for you. youd get it the next day, but youd say about $40. good luck.
 
My total for two 16GB Black iPhone Fours today was $398 with absolutely no tax mentioned from AT&T's website. I'm also in California.

Wrong. I live in Crook County Illinois, we're at 10.25%. See what the country has to look forward to with Chicago Politicians in D.C. :D
 
AHHHHH! i knew i remembered something like that from my previous iphone........seriously...what a joke! thank you apple and att....i thought we get a price break for signing with ATT....i guess not as much as they would like us to think, ;) freakin taxes in CA.....seems kind of deceitful to pay the higher tax...but that wouldn't be the first times taxes have been deceitful have they? Here's to you republicans and democrats!
