Click to expand... No, actually I was trying to pull it out of the trash when the macbook stopped working and I restarted it. Do I still have to erase and re-install?

Maybe not, you might be able to recover it using the Terminal in single-user mode, but I'm not sure of the commands - or if it will even work. Reinstalling will be the easiest way.
