Hi, I just upgraded my own AT&T contract to an iphone 5, purchased from apple.com. I had no plan to use it by myself, I sent it directly to my brother (in another state) as a gift, I just still use my iphone 4S. so here comes the problem, when my brother tried to initiate the phone, via either Wifi or itune, it showed my current AT&T number and asked for last 4 digit of my SSN and billing zipcode. I paused his action because I am afraid if we did that, my current number with my current sim card will be transferred to that nano-sim in the new iphone 5, am I right? even my brother can send the sim card back, since it's a nano-sim, I am still using my iphone 4S, it's won't fit.

there must be someway to just active the phone but not transferred my number to that sim, right? please help.

should we insert another AT&T sim (like a prepaid sim) to active it?

or can we use unlock code/service from ebay to skip this step?

Thanks in advance.

You need to tell your brother to insert his own sim card. To get a new nano sim, go to a AT&T store. They should give him one free of charge, and they'll help him activate it as well.

thanks for the reply, I just had a call with AT&T, the agent helped to "release" my number bundling with that nano-sim, I guess now my bro can use another AT&T sim to activate it. if he still can not, i will let him go to AT&T store for help.
Thanks
