My partner has a MacBook which is running Tiger the problem we have is that once it logs into the OS Desktop and you click on anything the rainbow ball shows up and it seems the computer locks up.

Has anyone had this or has a solution?

She has some files on it that she wants to get off. We don't have the mac's networked and can't get them to due to this problem.

Use the gray restore DVDs that came with that Mac (not another) and boot from them via pressing C during startup.
Then go to Utilities and start Disk utility to repair the disk and permissions.

If that didn't work, you can use Target Disk Mode to get data from the MacBook.

How do I do the Target Disk mode?
