Help after restore went bad(Jailbreak)

OK so I was going through the old restore process before the source came out but somehow managed to mess my backups up. I now only have backups from the 24th of June which is the day I sold my 3gs. I thought all was doomed but I went into Time Machine and found my old backup! One problem though, when I click restore from backup in iTunes it starts the restore with the only one I have in the right folder which is the good backup but half way it gives me the error that iPhone could not be restored because an error occurred. No error specifically just an error. Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated I am going to be very upset if I have to redo everything.
