Forgive me if this has been answered, I couldn't find an answer anywhere...
I have an alias of my external HDD's Movies folder which sits inside my local Movies folder to use with Front Row. I only power up my external HDD when archiving, searching archives or playing archived movies, so 3/4 of the time it isn't powered up (I like as little noise as possible and don't want to have it needlessly spinning). The problem is that if OS X is running and the external HDD isn't connected it seems to detect that the alias is invalid and resets it to reference my local movies folder. So any time I want to use Front Row to play from my external HDD I need to re-reference the correct target for the alias first. It takes 5 seconds each time but it's an annoying extra step.
Any solutions to prevent this problem without compromising anything else in OS X?
