I recently upgraded the hard drive in my late-2007 black MacBook to an SSD. All is great with that and I’m extremely happy with the results. I then attempted to replace the optical drive with a hard drive caddy and cannot get it to work. I decided to use a less expensive caddy since it is an older computer and this one had good reviews on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Micro-SATA-Cables-Optical-Adapter/dp/B005L91ZL8/ref=sr_1_19?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1368031425&sr=1-19&keywords=micro+sata+cables. I’ve since tried two different caddies and an assortment of hard drives, including the original, all which work externally. I cannot get the system to recognize the hard drive in the caddy. I even swapped in the SSD and no results. I can hear it spin up when I power on the computer but Disk Utility does not see it, AHT passed, System Profiler shows no ATA devices attached. I put the optical drive back in and it functions normally which tends to lead me away from other hardware issues. Can anyone offer any advice? I’m willing to spend the money for a “better” caddy but not until I can be sure there are no underlying issues or something I may be missing.
