Help - Apple TV/iPhone 5 video mirroring problems

I wanted to demo to a friend how cool airplay is from my iPhone 5 iOS 8.1.2!

didn't happen! all I get is the spinning circle...

I tried showing a youtube video. it would not mirror on the aTV! I thought it was only a youtube problem. web pages, photos, etc all mirror fine.

youtube does mirror on my MBP.

its not just youtube - no video from the iPhone 5 - from any website will mirror on aTV any more! and when you get out of the video mode, its completely disconnected from the aTV - nothing is mirroring and the banner is no longer blue.

it all use to work fine what changed???
