I am at work, working away peacefully on my mac. Suddenly, the dreded Kernel panic where the grey box comes up and I'm forced to restart.

So, restart as usual, but only to find that I cannot run any programs. Except for a few such as system preferences, finder, and Preview that I tried. I get this message:

Application Launch Failure

The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "><Microsoft Word><Apple;Carbon;Multimedia><CFMPriv_QuickTime><>"

So, I ran Onyx, did almost all the maintenance scripts, cleaned caches, rapaired permissions, etc. and restarted again.

=No Change.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd greatly appreciate it. This is really affecting my work productivity today.

Update:

It seems that all applications that are included in the OS work: Safari, Preferences, iChat, iTunes, Calculator, Stickies, Quicktime, iPhoto, etc.

However, it's the 3rd party apps that don't work. Microsoft Office, Photoshop, fireworks.

Even more confusing though is Firefox, Toast, and iPodder X work.
