I have a Canon HF100 camcorder. It records 1080/60i AVCHD. I currently have iMovie '06 & '08 and a C2D MacBook Pro (3gb ram) w/ a 750gb external drive. I'd like to edit some home movies (cut, add transitions, adjust audio, add music, etc) then export to playback on a PS3 + 54" 1080p HDTV. My goal is keeping image quality as near as the original source. HF100 playback on a large screen is quite impressive.

Questions: if I upgrade to iLife 09 would I benefit by getting Final Cut Express or will iMovie 09 do all I need? Will both import/export the 1080/60i source as 540/30p or as 1080/30p?

Additionally will the full version of Final Cut maintain a higher import/export resolution? Or for the same price, should I consider a newer 1080/60p camcorder and would iMovie or FCE keep the resolution at 1080/60p?

Thanks.
