For what things do you want to use your Mac?

That's more important than you think to decide what MBP you gonna get.

I don't know if the above poster was serious or just fed up about all those threads asking what MBP to get without proper research or more clarification on one's needs, but the 15" model with a discrete graphics card could be too much for your needs.

So what are your needs?

Are you using the computer to compose music, or writing sheets of notes, or just gaming, or writing essays, or watching porn, or listening to classical music, or.....?

A bigger screen is nice if you don't have an external monitor. I went through a Macbook and decided on a Macbook Pro based on screen size alone. It's really convenient to have a larger screen, when watching movies, typing an essay etc.

agree.

Get whatever suits your needs, and if both are ok, then go by screen size (or money situation). For me, right now, probably a 13" would suffice, but not a year ago when I bought mine. I'm thinking of changinb, but I've used a 13" for a good couple of days and I just can't get used to the screen, so for me a 15" it is.

I was wondering the same thing myself until I saw the new 17" in my local Apple Store, the screen is gorgeous and the increased resolution is sensational. I wonder how long until the same PPI is available on the 15".

I must admit, being a hardened 15 incher (stop sn iggering at the back) that I found myself trying to justify lugging two more inches and 500 extra grams around the world...

Holding a 0.5kg free weight in my hand, it's not that much more - You're more likely ot have a better case and bag carrying solution if you go 17", and will ilkely be using it slightly less portably (moving it then setting up for longer sessions more likely, than going to and fro with it).

If Apple sorted out the PPI of the 17 inch model i'm sure there would be a lot more people going from 13 -> 15 inch MBPs (and a few 17 inch people going down ot 15 and enjoing the smaller size).

I've always found desktop 15 inch screens way too small (and so dual screen 17 inch screens), but paradoxically enjoy the 13 inch white macbook for it's compact size. i'd have a decent session using both models.

If you're not moving round that much, i'd go for the 15" with discrete graphics, and enjoy the larger screen.
