HELP. Cant empty trash can...

Lion hasnt given me any issues so far
however, I cant empty my trash can, Ive tried everything.
It gets to about "20 items to delete" And freezes there.
Ive tried renaming the files, Ive tried going into terminal and using the following command - sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash/
Ive attempted to securly empty the trashcan from the finder menu, Using the option key whilst doing it both ways.
All to no luck
Where am I going wrong??? ( yep still quite new to os x )

Also noticed I have the dreaded 'mackeeper' in my apps folder but obviously cant do anything about it until i sort the trash can issue out :/

Ok Ive just installed trash it & its working for now...

For anyone looking for an answer, this is what helped me out a while back.

If you can't empty the Trash or move a file to the Trash

For example, this message might appear when you try to empty the Trash: "The operation could not be completed because the item '(item name)' is locked."

First, try holding the Option key as you choose Empty Trash from the Finder's File menu.
