Help, can't install OS X on FireWire drive

Okay, I'm trying to install Mac OS X Tiger on my external FireWire drive. When I try to install it, it says that I can't boot from the drive. The drive is partitioned, but that shouldn't matter, right? I tried reformatting it, and everything. No luck. I don't want to use USB because I heard it can get unstable if your booting from it. Thanks in advance.

The standard Mac OS Extended (Journaled). That's the right format, right?

PS: Is it just me, or has Mad Jew replied to almost every single thread I have started?

That's bizarre. Even though that's the correct format, I'd try reformatting the partition to ensure something strange didn't happen in the format process earlier.

Repartition the drive, and when doing so, click the Options button and be sure to use GUID Partition Table.
