i tried for the first time to stream a YouTube video from my iPhone to the appletv, so I selected airplay and put a check mark in appletv and a check in HomePod, does not work, if I deselect homepod the video will start playing on appletv will but if I select HomePod again the video will disappear.... I am on family plan, I just thought I should be able to do this?

video only goes to one place.
audio goes to multiple
so when you add video it kills the second device.

Family plan has nothing to do with it

you should be able to set the appleTV up to play it's audio locally and from the HomePod (long press play on the home screen)
then send the video from the phone to the aTV, the aTV should then play the video, and forward the audio to the HomePod.
