I'm majoring in film and I really would love to get this years 2012 15" base model. The price is just over my limit (around under $1500). Would the refurb 15" Late 2011 model do just fine or a regular 13" 2012 model?

Thank you.

If you're doing film and will be doing a lot of video editing, definitely get a 15" MBP with a higher resolution display and of course a discrete graphics card. The 2011 model will work just fine and is more than capable enough to handle film editing. I will suggest though, that if you dont need it asap, wait till the 2012 15" models to make it to the refurb store. They may be priced higher, but you do get a faster processor and USB 3.0. Just something to think about

If you desire the screen space of the 15'' then go with the refurb, otherwise go for the 2012 13'' in my opinion. There are always external displays, too.

I would go with a high end MBP .. any of the models that was released prior to 2012. Remember you still want to get AppleCare.
