Hello!
I have a dell inspiron 7460, core i7th 7500u generation, 16 gb ram, 256 ssd, geforce 940mx (4gb), from 2016. I want to change to macOS and thinking if i should get a macbook air. I'm going to use it for email, skype, netflix, web, music, power point and word. I tend to have loads of tabs oppened on chrome (don't care if i'd have to change safari), like 15 and watch movies all the time.
Would you think i'll be happy with a MBA? should get the i3 or i5? 8 or 16 gb?
As you can see I don't understand that much, a friend of my that bought my actual notebook for me.

PS: english is not my mother language, sorry in advance for the poor writting

I don't think you are going to be happy, or notice an improvement on the apps you say you are going to run, from your current setup.

The only thing that will stand out is you got a better screen in the Mac.

Expect fan noise and heat running Chrome, and Netflix in Chrome.

Your best bet would probably be the i3 for it will run a little cooler and you have nothing pressing.

Save some bucks and go base i3, if it does not work out then send it back. Keep your current machine until you figure it out.

Thanks!
I've just recieved an offer, a macbook pro 2019 base model for the same price as the MBA 2020 base model, but i think the keyboard and the 128 storage might be a deal breaker

Just me but I wouldn't buy a butterfly keyboard system today.

I don't have Netflix so I can't directly check it out but, for what it's worth, on my 2020 i5 MBA:
  • YouTubeTV in Chrome creates a slight bit of fan noise. Not much, I'd likely not have noticed it if I hadn't muted the volume.
  • Hulu within Safari - fan is silent - don't know if it's spinning, if it is there's nothing audible
  • Hulu within Chrome - fan is silent
Personally I like Safari on macOS - has the added benefit of cross-platforming with my phone and ipad.
