Hey guys I have a Macbook black from 2008. Here are all the identifiers:
MB404LL/A
macbook4,1
a1181

It's 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 duo and the current memory is 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. I'm wondering if upgrading the ram to 4GB or even 6GB is worth it. I know apple "officially" says the model only supports 4GB, but third parties have had success with 6GB. The only drawback is possible interleaving but any performance hit caused by this is negligible. (http://www.pbcentral.com/news/viewnews.cgi?id=EkkyVApFFuIDwuIbac)

Is it worth going from 4 GB to a mismatched 6GB? I've been looking around on newegg and I can get 2x2GB stick or ram for around $70. Can I buy any of these as long as they're 200 pin and DDR2-667? Is there any difference in the brands, as in some I should look for or stay away from?

Any other places I should be looking besides newegg and can you guys suggest some 4GB sticks (all the ones on newegg are ddr3). Here is the page with the ram I was looking at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...=2010170551+1327924738&Tpk=macbook+ram&Page=2

Thanks in advance.

6gb.

I'm thinking about biting the bullet on this one also - my Black Macbook 2.4GHz 2GB 250GB (also a 4,1) could use a bit of a memory boost.

I primarily use Lightroom 3 for photo editing, and I typically source my libraries on external drives and edit from here - thus, moving 2,500 images around at a time can be pretty taxing on the blackbook.

I'll try to remember to update this if/when I pull the trigger on that RAM and let you know if I experience any issues.

Also, this is my first post.
