Three Macs, all running Lion, each with a copy of Compressor 4 from the Mac App Store.

Mac 1: 15" Mid 2010 MacBook Pro, running Lion
Mac 2: 21" Mid 2007 iMac, running Lion
Mac 3: Mid 2010 Mac Mini Server, running Lion Server

All with at least 4 gig of ram and plenty-o-disk™
All on a single gigabit switch. No wireless.

Compressor (and Qadministrator) are fully functional on Mac 1 and Mac 2.
Qadministrator is fully functional on Mac 3, however, Compressor is not.

The primary issue is that trying to create a new batch (or open an existing one, for that matter) will not work on Mac 3. There is no error message. There is no event logged in any of the system's log files. The batch window just will not come up.

One of the things I had considered, is whether or not the software system requirements for an OpenCL compatible graphics card is the problem. Unfortunately for that train of thought, Mac 2 also fails to meet that requirement.

Next up was a suggestion to do a software update after installing Compressor. I did so, and it found some application support pieces were out of date on Mac 3 (not so on Mac 1 and Mac 2), so I went ahead and installed them. No good.

Lots of googling. Lots of tinkering (removed preferences, tried an application that purports to "Fix Compressor installation", reinstalled Compressor) all to no avail.

One difference that might be helpful: Both Mac 1 and Mac 2 have Final Cut Studio 2 installed (including an older version of Compressor, which was replaced by Compressor 4), while Mac 3 did not have any pro video tools installed.

My next thought was to try to capture the system calls of the Compressor process when it starts on either Mac 1 or Mac 2, and compare that information to what happens on Mac 3 in a game of "One of these things is not like the others. Which one, and how is it different?"

Any other suggestions?
