The display on my new watch has a really sudden fall-off towards blue when I look at it from a slight angle. This is worse when I look at the watch from the bottom edge - which given how you activate the screen, I end up doing a lot - and it's very distracting because it's *very* blue. Does anyone else have this?

The images show how it looks straight on, and at an angle. I've also added some images of my S2 watch for comparison. My S2 has a very slight blue tint at an angle, but nowhere near to the same level as my S4 which looks even more blue in real life compared to these pictures.

Do I have a bad screen, or do all S4 watches do this? I had an S0 before my S2, and that behaved like the S2 so I'm concerned that I have a bad screen on my SBSS, (which is amazing - apart from this issue).

Thanks both. Ive probably just been spoiled by the screens on my S0 and S2 which were perfectly white...

Seems to be something with OLED screens, my iPhone Xs Max has extreme blue shift too and I'm not too sure if I'm going to try a replacement yet. My iPhone X was perfect with no blue shift at all.

Just weird that my S4 is significantly worse than both my S0, S2 and iPhone X.
Annoyingly, it’s also far worse from the bottom angle. If I flip the crown and wear it upside down then it’s not really noticeable.

Mines the same - hadn’t noticed it until you pointed it out :D Agreed with some of the above, it’s the OLED screen characteristics.

+1 on this thread. Blue shift is significantly more noticeable on S4 compared to my S2. In another thread, someone suggested that this is due to a different OLED tech (LTPO), which is meant to save battery life.

I’m fine with it if it is normal for the S4, and especially if it improves battery life.
It is a bit of a step backwards visually compared to my S0 and S2, but I guess they needed to do it to put a bigger screen in these watches. If that’s the case then it’s probably worth it imho.

Do you plan on always using that face? I'd imagine it'd be far less noticeable if you weren't using a face with all of that white.

I might have used it if it wasn’t for the blue shift, but I’ve switched to the black background now for the Infogram face and you’re right, it is much less noticeable.

What? Like when the glue dries?

This is normal for OLED displays, my MAX will do the same.

No every one will blue shift when looking at on an angle. It is normal.

I'm not sure why you're so definitive about this when the pictures and experiences shared on this thread shows that the blue shift is more significant on S4 displays vs the S2. I've compared the two and there's definitely a major difference. That said, it does seem Apple changed the display tech here, which is perhaps why we're seeing this effect on the display.

So what is one to do, go back to their S2? It is what it is. The blue shift at an angle is a non-issue to ost except the people who just have to find something wrong with their device. All the S4 7nits are the same so people need to deal with it or move on to an Android device.

Personally I only started this thread to make sure my watch wasn’t defective. It actually looks a lot more blue than it does in the images I posted which is why I was concerned.
If they’re all like this, and that’s the way they’re meant to be then I don’t have a problem with it.
When I spend this amount of money on something I don’t want to end up with something that’s worse than everyone else’s, that’s all :)

+1 to that.. if you read this thread, people are just wanting to make sure they don't have a dud out of the bunch.. it's kind of annoying when people come into threads like this to contribute nothing and just judge ppl for asking honest questions.

I was starting to think I was the only one seeing the bluish hue in the new Apple Watch series 4. I was impressed by the image quality of my series 3 so I was a bit taken back by this newer model. I wonder if the ones reading this thread are the exceptions or if this is just the way it should look?

I guess we could do with someone comparing one of the ‘blue’ screen watches against the ones in the Apple Store to make sure. Anyone live close to one?
