I've got the 2019 base 5K iMac. Really happy with it. Due to work I'm trying to decide between selling it and buying the 13 MacBook Pro 2020, so I can take my personal laptop to the office instead of working with an old Air in the long run.

I've got a buyer already but I'm in doubt. Sometimes I work at home, but only for a few hours. I'm mostly at the office.

The smaller screen is a negative, but I could have all my files and accounts at work to be more fast and productive with my workflow.

What would you guys do in my situation?

IMac has better gpu and cpu, more ports, etc. But can only be use at home, and I no longer use it as much for personal use. Maybe a laptop would have more use in that sense, using it in the couch or something.

The change is a bad one or performance isn't very different?

Doesn't sound like a bad idea in this specific case.
Just make sure you get the version with 4 ports and 16GB of ram.
The 2020 models with 4 ports have better integrated graphics that will smoothly run external screen.
Don't go for base.
At the same time buy two cheap monitors and you will have much better experience at work and home so it's a win win.

I'd go for the new base 2020 model, since I really don't need much horse power. I'm a journalist, so with the base model I'm ok, as long as it doesn't get to hot or loud.

I was thinking of buying an external monitor also for home, but a cheap one. So I'd lose the 5K iMac display in the change. If I find a cheap 2K then I'd go for that.
