Hi all, I am looking at getting a new 13" pro. I can't decide wether to go with the base model with i5,4gb,500 or the i7,8gb,750. The latter is 300 more and I don't know if the processor upgrade is worth it. I don't care about the extra 250 gb HD and I know I can buy extra memory do cheap. What is everyone's thoughts? Thanks in advance!!!

Buy the i5 model and upgrade the RAM yourself. I've seen some retailers selling the base i5 13" MBP for $999. If you're planning on buying this weekend, you may find an even better deal than that.

Check out newegg they have had some great deals on 2 x 8GB kits lately.

Finally, if have the extra money, look into SSDs.

Thanks T,,, amazon has the newest version for 1034 shipped right now and I don't have to pay tax so it's like saving an additional $70... I haven't been able to find it cheaper anywhere else yet

That's pretty close to $999. I don't see any Apple stuff on sale at Fry's, but I think they charge shipping anyway.

I would say that the Base is the smart buy, however, had the upgrade been a Quad core, tough call.

Ok, I did it!!!!' I bought the i5,4gb,500 hd. I then bought 16gb or ram and an ocz vertex 4 256gb ssd.
Grand total with shipping and tax: $1237.95
What do you guys think? Seemed like it would be a good setup. I can then use the stock 500gb hd as an external drive I'd I buy a case for it, correct?

Update! Just got it price matched $962.45 to match frys deal that started this morning!! Best price I have ever seen for it!!
So, 1237.95-72.45=$1165.50:D

You did very well. The SSD + hella RAM in a MBP = nicest laptop you can buy today. And at that price you did very well.
